OK so it isn't the all in with smacking kids we were hoping for... But this study claims that kids smacked through the age of 6 (but not beyond) are more successful and happy later in life.

    Original story is here.

A smacked child ‘is a successful child’

Young children smacked by their parents may grow up to be happier and more successful than those who have never been hit, a study has found.

According to the research, children smacked up to the age of six were likely as teenagers to perform better at school and were more likely to carry out volunteer work and to want to go to university than their peers who had never been physically disciplined.

Only those children who continued to be smacked into adolescence showed clear behavioural problems.

Children’s groups and MPs have tried several times to have physical chastisement by parents outlawed. They claim it is a form of abuse that causes long-term harm to children and say banning it would send a clear signal that violence is unacceptable.

I hate case studies like this because they leave out some important shit:

    1. Discipline your kids properly through age 6 and you won't HAVE to be smacking them as teenagers.

    2. Parents tend to be wimpy on physical punishment when their kids are small, thus by the time the kids are teenagers, they're insolent smack-worthy pricks who understand their parents are wimps.

    3. Smacking is effective for small children because they fear it. It startles them. Smack a teenager and he'll just think you're an asshole and go back to his computer ungrounded... smacking a teen is pretty ineffective, especially if you're a 5'3" mother trying to intimidate your 5'9" son. It just pisses them off, it doesn't punish them.
