The video is at the National Geographic site (couldn't find YouTube video of it).

A mile and a half (two and a half kilometers) underwater, a remote control submersible's camera has captured an eerie surprise: an alien-like, long-armed, and—strangest of all—"elbowed" Magnapinna squid.
    Check out the video

They also have some photos here.

I've always been fascinated by deep sea creatures, especially the trench-dwellers. They are so freaky looking! They almost look alien.

Zoe, you might like to purchase "Blue Planet" on DVD by BBC Documentary then. It's EXCEPTIONALLY fascinating.

It's beautiful. I love squid in general, and deep water ones in particular. I saw a couple of the pictures, can't watch the vid, and it is such a fascinating creature. If these gigantic, intelligent, magnificent creatures are so hard to see, it makes you wonder what other neat things live in the depths.

And Zoe, DEFINITELY check out Blue Planet. I have watched the entire series several times now, and they do have some incredible deep ocean footage. The more recent series Planet Earth(which I purchased) has some even more sophisticated footage of the deep oceans, lots on the Benthic/Abyssal zones. An entire hour-long episode is devoted to it, appropriately titled Deep Oceans. xD

Ooh! I keep forgetting about those! I've been meaning to rent them but always draw a blank when I get to the store.
